**Mean**

The **mean** is one of the measures of central tendency. It is also known as the **average**. To get the mean or average of a set of numbers, we add all the numbers in the set and divide it by the number of numbers being added. In other words, we get the sum of the numbers in the set then divide it by how many numbers are being added.

Example:

Find the mean or average of 1, 4, 7, 9, 13, 14.

**Step 1**: Add all the numbers to get the sum.

**Step 2**: Count how many numbers you are adding. In this case, we have six (6) numbers to add.

**Step 3**: Find the mean by dividing the sum you got in Step 1 by how many numbers are being added (Step 2).

{{1 + 4 + 7 + 9 + 13 + 14} \over 6} = {{48} \over 6} = 8
